RGD Consulting Engineers provided MEP engineering for the ED Department renovations located in Advent Health Care’s main hospital in Wesley Chapel FL. The main Project requirements included upgrade lighting and reconfiguration of the existing ED Department for the construction of Advent Health Care’s Medical Office Building Two, immediately adjacent to the main hospital. This generally required the reconfiguration of ambulance drive up, building exiting and interior upgrades. Engineering challenges consisted of the replacement of the ED Department’s HVAC system which was required to meet AHCA (Agency for Health Care Administration) design requirements, replacement of the lighting systems with LED type fixtures and new lighting controls to conform to current Code requirements. Other technical aspects included modifications to the hydronic heating systems for new reheat terminals, rebalancing of the central chilled water systems, rebalancing hydronic heating systems, and rebalancing the main air handling unit serving the first floor, south wing of the hospital’s first floor. This required close coordination with the existing smoke control systems which was required to remain operational throughout construction. The existing building’s exhaust/ relief systems serving the first floor, south wing was also required to be replaced in order to maintain proper building pressurization relationships with adjacent program spaces which in turn required renovation of existing triage rooms, relocation of existing steam services, medical gas piping and domestic water systems. The AHCA reviewable Project also included design of voice /data systems, fire alarm systems and CCTV systems.
