RGD provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering for the Medical Center at Mills Park in Orlando, Fl. The Project consist of a five story, 75,000 SF medical office building and a six- story parking structure totaling 300,000 SF. The medical office building is designed for multiple tenants including a future first floor AHCA reviewable surgical suite. Upper floors are designed for both single and multi-tenant tenant improvements with a fifth-floor terrace for outdoor gatherings and flexible workspace. The parking garage is designed to serve the 75,0000 SF medical office building and a future six level 90,000 SF medical office building.

Engineering challenges include design of a central variable speed/variable pumping chilled water system serving both variable volume air and constant volume handling units located on each floor. Air to air energy recovery systems were design to recover energy that would otherwise be exhausted from the building which lowered the installed refrigeration tonnage by 20%. Demand control ventilation systems are designed to vary the fresh air intake based on occupant density which provides further energy savings. Other technical aspects include the provisions for on-site power generation, design of power distribution systems for dense power loads such as the surgical suite and imaging equipment and design of an oxygen tank farm for surgical suite and other tenant uses.
